July 2nd, 2007 - Edited by me, Bud Parr, Chekhov’s Mistress began its life in July, 2003, named briefly “Bookenomics & Policulture.” Looking for focus in what already seemed a crowded blog world, I soon changed the name to Chekhov’s Mistress and devoted the site with few exceptions to discussing literature. With my involvement in the ”Gaddis Drinking Club,” the ”Litblog Co-op” and my own group-blog devoted to discussing Don Quixote, ”400 Windmills,” and my network of literary blogs, ”MetaxuCafe," I’ve become firmly entrenched as one of the blog-people with this site as the center of my online activities.
The guiding principle for our conversation here is embodied in Adam Zagajewski’s essay “A Defense of Ardor.” If you haven’t read it, I recommend it, but no worries, the title says quite a bit. Otherwise, read the archives here, subscribe, follow along, participate. Thanks.

Bud parr is a writer by temperament, a Web developer by trade and the father of three sons. He started his literary blog Chekhov’s Mistress in the summer of 2003. Prior to that he worked for 15 years at very large corporations doing very large jobs that left him feeling very small. He was so inspired by the impact writing online had on his world that he started Sonnet Media, a Web development firm, in 2004 to create Websites and blogs for others.
In addition to running a small business and writing for his blog, he created and runs a network of nearly 800 book blogs called MetaxuCafé and until recently he ran an online advertising network for arts & culture sites called Brainiads. His most recent fiction can be found in the anthology “Awake: A Reader for the Sleepless.” He lives in Brooklyn, NY with his family and stacks of books.
