What came first, the song or the book?

So I’ve been reading a lot of books lately. Like a ridiculous amount, to the point where my house is one more rubbish bag away from a hoarders dream and my son is on the brink of calling Child line for a much needed intervention. Anyhoo, after reading some of my absolute favourite books I have discovered some perfect tunes that remind me of the characters or events in the stories.

Some of the books already come with their own inspirations; such as The Avett brothers in Colleen Hoover’s Slammed or The Civil Wars as mentioned in J.A Redmerski’s The edge of never. It makes me wonder, does a song inspire us to write or once written do we search for the perfect song?

The Sea of Tranquillity by Katja Millay is an obsession of mine. I probably think about it more than I really should- in a non creepy way of course, don’t call for the straight jacket just yet! I love listening to new music and have posted some of my favourite songs that I think compliment the story and the amazing characters that I have had the pleasure of reading.

This song describes the relationship between the two main characters.

This song would be Josh’s message to Emily.

Another favourite read of mine is The Breathing Series from Rebecca Donovan and my song for this would be My Kind of Love by Emeli Sande. (I promise I do own more than one cd, this girl just happens to be amazing!)

This is Evan’s song to Emma

Well I would say that is enough romantic mush for one day.
